TruSpeed to Campaign Three Porsches
In 2010 SCCA World Challenge GT Series
Winning drivers Rob Morgan, Charles Morgan and Patrick Lindsey
To suit up for 12-race season
COSTA MESA, Calif., March 15 - The competition in the SCCA World Challenge
GT series heated up dramatically today when TruSpeed Motorsports announced
that it will field three Porsche GT3 Cup cars in all 12 races this year. Rob
Morgan of Ladera Ranch, Calif. and Patrick Lindsey from Santa Barbara,
Calif. will drive 2008 Porsches while Charles Morgan, who hails from Dallas,
Texas will drive a 2010 model.
TruSpeed, the premier source for air-cooled Porsches in the United States,
is the sponsor of Rob Morgan's car, while Charles Morgan's car will promote
PrivacyStar, an application for Blackberries that provides users with a
comprehensive privacy solution for unwanted calls. Patrick Lindsey's car will be
sponsored by TruSpeed, Horton Autosport and Sloan Securities.
TruSpeed has been an important team in professional sports car racing for
more than 30 years. The Morgans have owned two NASCAR teams and they each
have class victories in the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona. Rob Morgan's name is
also familiar to SCCA Trans-Am and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series fans. In IMSA
GT, Charles Morgan is ranked third in the all-time driver point standings,
and he has two class victories at the 12 Hours of Sebring too. He and his son
also won Grand-Am's AGT team championship in 2002.
Patrick Lindsey is moving into the World Challenge GT series from its
sister division, Touring Car. He ran a full season in Touring Car in 2008 and had
four Touring Car starts in 2009, recording two top-five finishes and two
top 10s in a Mazda prepared by Horton Motorsports. He also ran in seven NASA
American Iron series races in 2009, scoring two victories and four podium
finishes.
TruSpeed competed in a handful of World Challenge races last year before
making the decision to field a multi-car team in the series in 2010. "We liked
the series and the format, and with some changes and adjustments, we're
looking forward to the new season," said Rob Morgan. "Last year Toyo tires were
new to us, so now we have learned how to adjust and make the most of them.
We're also going with a new Penske shock package that we think will help us.
We will also benefit from data sharing by bringing Patrick into the mix.
Patrick and I are racing to win; our goal is to be in the top three in the
point standings at the end of the year," Morgan added.
Lindsey was guardedly optimistic. "This will be my first time in a Porsche
and my first time in GT so we have some obstacles to overcome, but we do
expect to do very well. It's a very talented group, and I think we're going to
work well together. The collaboration between Horton Autosport and TruSpeed
will yield some good results," he said.
The series consists of 12 races at eight venues. The team is especially
looking forward to the Long Beach Grand Prix April 16-18 since it's near its
home base. "The TruSpeed transporter will be featured inside the Convention
Center, and we'll have a big display," Morgan said.
Each event will be televised on VERSUS, beginning with the season-opening
doubleheader March 26-28 in St. Petersburg, Fla.
